As age, decorum and respect demanded in the mid-1970’s when I first met “Mrs.Bickert””- (never “Lou Jane”),- mother to my great good friend, Bill, all-but-certain future mother-in-law to. Bill’s then longer-than-I’d-known-him girlfriend, Nancy.and (truth be told) mother to my secret crush, Janey - always had a way of making me ffeel as though I was the center of attention and special guest whenever I visited the Bickerk home. She.was the.undisputed social and family events director, at least insofar as those events routinenly involved a.complex but delightful dinner for as many people as her robust family of six had invited to the house that particular evening.
Mrs. Bickert was the perfect compliment to Mr. Bickert’s often amusing/often dead serious, always crusty man’s-man banter.. She was the velvet edge of the family, an example to son and.daughters alike of the attributes of empathy, caring and unselfish love that were but a few of the tender life-lessons she liberally dispensed to family and friends whenever I had the privilege to be in her company.
I earnestly pray to Our glorious Father in Heaven that he take her into. His. Eternal Embrace. “He has showed you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God” ( Micah 6:8)
