Obituary of Charles Edward Page

Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Page, Charles E., 94. Charles E. Page, 94, passed away on April 5, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a passionate, loving husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather. Born February 6, 1926 (2-6-2-6 he liked to say) in Albany, NY, Charlie was a Word War II Army veteran who served under General MacArthur in the Pacific Theater and in the occupation of Japan. Charlie was extremely kind-hearted, a great listener and always had a big genuine caring smile for everyone. His favorite line upon meeting someone he liked – “I’ll vote for you any day” – made him popular among friends and strangers alike. His youthful, kind-hearted, sunny and positive personality was such a big part of who he was that even in his 80s, children in his neighborhood and friends of his grandson would come to the door to see if “Charlie” could come out and play. Charlie was a 40-year employee and Manager of the Grand Union Company until his retirement in 1995. He spent his retirement years traveling the world with his wife, Ginny, playing with his grandchildren, tending his beautiful rock garden and working in his yard at his home in Oakland. He was also an expert bridge player and continued to play until passing. One of his other favorite hobbies was metal detecting, where he enjoyed finding hidden treasures and searching for the owner of the lost items. He had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed bird watching, gardening and astronomy. Charlie stayed young by playing bridge at Activities Unlimited, in Wyckoff, enjoying trips to the casino and playing duplicate bridge with his and his wife’s many wonderful friends. He was also an active member of Saint Mary’s Church in Pompton Lakes, NJ where he volunteered to help those in need. He was predeceased in 2019 by his loving wife of 65 years, Virginia Page. He is survived by his children Chuck Page, of Saratoga, CA; Deborah Page-Jacobsen, of Oakland, NJ and her husband, Michael Jacobsen; and David Page, of Cohasset, MA, as well as his grandchildren Sean Till, Courtney Page, Lindsay Page, John Page and Megan Page. Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, a private family ceremony was held at Redeemer Cemetery in Mahwah, NJ, and a celebration of Charlie’s wonderful life will be held in the fall, at which time we will announce the date.
