Pierce, Joan Marie 85, of Townsend Ma. formerly of Oakland NJ, passed away on December 25, 2012. Visitation will be held at the Oakland Memorial Home 330 Ramapo Valley Road, Oakland, NJ on Sunday December 30, 2012 from 1:00 to 5:00 pm Funeral service will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help 117 Franklin Avenue Oakland, NJ on Monday, December 31, 2012 at 9:30 am (please go directly to the church). Burial will follow at the Maryrest Cemetery, 770 Darlington Avenue, Mahwah, NJ Joan was born to John and Elizabeth Galenski on August 26, 1927. She was very active in the community of Oakland where she volunteered for many years as a Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout den mother, and girls softball coach. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 49 years Harold Pierce and sister Betty Holland Joan was a very kind and gentle soul who had a loving and generous heart. She was always giving to others. She leaves behind one loving sister, Mary Galenski; sons Christopher, Jonathan and Dennis; daughter Jeannie (Pierce) Schaefer; 6 grandchildren, Jason, Dennis Jr, Marybeth, Jonathan, Katie, and Joseph.
