Obituary of Owen Kavanagh

Owen Kavanagh, age 86, of Budd Lake NJ, passed away on May 31, 2018.
Born in the Bronx to Elizabeth Harley and John Kavanagh, he attended St Jerome School and Cardinal Hayes High School.
He served from in the US Amy from 1952 – 1954 at the Headquarters Support Company, Ramstein Air Base, Germany.
Owen was a Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 241, Fordham Manor Reformed Church, in the Bronx from 1969-1978. In appreciation for his contributions, he was honored with the Silver Beaver Award for distinguished service. This award is given to those who implement the Scouting program and perform community service through hard work, self-sacrifice, dedication, and years of service.
After completing a 34 year career with the Santa Fe Railroad Intermodal Sales Division in NYC, Owen retired and found new interests, spending time perfecting his golf game, learning and teaching astronomy, traveling, and making new friends.
He also returned to school to earn an Associate Degree at Bergen Community College where he discovered a passion for acting. He appeared in productions at Bergen Community College, Bergen County Players, and Ramapo College Summer Theater.
After moving to Budd Lake, he became an active member of the Pax Amicus Castle Theater appearing in more than 100 productions over the next 20 years.
Owen is survived by his former wife, Patricia Kavanagh of Mahwah NJ, and their children, Bernadette Clarke of Mahwah NJ, and Stephen Kavanagh and wife Mary of Long Pond PA., grandchildren Jennifer Kavanagh Buccola and husband James (Jay) of Haskell NJ, Jaclyn Kavanagh of Houston TX, Katherine Clarke of Galway, Ireland, and great-grandson James Buccola.
Cremation was private.
