Patrick Mac Mahon
Patrick "Patsy" Mac Mahon, age 85, of Oakland, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2017 with his family by his side. A native born son of Ireland and proud citizen of the United States, Patsy is survived by his light and life, beloved wife Sheila; son John Patrick and his wife Georgiana; son Joseph and his significant other Beth Anne Shafman; son Eugene and his wife Ginny; daughter Sheila Anne; grandchildren Patrick Drew, Tara and Brianna; also survived by well loved family members "back home" in Ireland, in Wales, and in America, too numerous to name but always kept dear by Patsy in his heart.
Born and raised in Kilmainhamwood, County Meath, Ireland, Patsy came to America in 1956 intending to stay only for a while when he met Sheila Cronin of Tureenamult, County Kerry, Ireland, who also had intended to stay only for a while. From that meeting a new life was made by the two of them together in America. Patsy lived his life helping others, as the owner of P & M Service on Franklin Avenue for 43 years; as a father and husband whose solid work ethic provided for his family and showed his children that through hard work much good can come in life; and as a friend to many whose honesty, loyalty and basic decency steered how he lived and provided comfort, support and strength to others.
Patsy was an avid lover of nature and enjoyed spending his time outdoors, tending his garden, working in the yard with his dear wife, and just watching the wildlife. Patsy also was an accomplished musician who loved playing his accordion, especially with his brother Sean, as well as the piano. The sweet sounds of his music will be sorely missed.
Visiting hours will be held from 4 pm to 8 pm Wednesday, September 13 at the Oakland Memorial Home, Oakland. A funeral Mass will be held 10 am Thursday, September 14 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Oakland. Interment to follow at Christ the King Cemetery, Franklin Lakes. In lieu of flowers, donations in Patsy's memory may be made to the American Heart Association.
