Obituary of Janet Farrand

Farrand, Janet Anderson was born on January 5, 1928 in Worcester, Massachussetts to Joel Anderson and Hazel Swenson. At age 89 she passed peacefully on April 13, 2017 at Sunrise Assisted Living Home in the company of her family. Predeceased by her husband Brent T. Farrand, whom she met and married at Clark University in Worcester, MA and by her daughter-in-law Vernell Farrand, Janet is survived by daughters Carol Sgambelluri and Martha Bremer, sons Brent A. Farrand and Dean Farrand, sons-in-law Richard Sgambelluri and Robert Bremer, daughter-in-law Kathe Farrand, sister-in-law Jeanne Killian as well as 8 grandchildren - Erica, Whitney, Lizzy, Jessica, Kyle, Keith, Shawn and Timothy and 3 great grand daughters - Sienna, Kensi and Andie. Janet lived with her husband of 61 years in Liberty, New York, Oakland, New Jersey, Lakewood, NJ and Walden New York. She was a devoted and joyful member of the United Methodist Church in all four communities and particularly in the Franklin Lakes United Methodist Church. An enthusiastic organizer of church rummage sales as well as UMC women's organizations and lay leadership groups, she and Brent were honored as Conference Lay Leaders of the Year. Janet was a dedicated educator and taught for 23 years as a teacher at the Colonial Hills Elementary School in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, serving for several years as President of the Franklin Lakes Teachers Association. During the summer months she could be most likely found at her earthly paradise, the Jersey Shore - most often Avalon, NJ. Janet's most passionate pursuit was filling holidays with enchantment and magic for her family. Ever the "stubborn Swede", she patiently instilled her family with holiday traditions that will continue to bond and warm generations of her descendants Viewing and visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 18 from 6 - 9pm at the Oakland Memorial Home in Oakland, NJ. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 19 at 4pm at the Franklin Lakes United Methodist Church in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey. The family requests that in lieu of flower, memorial gifts be made to the United Methodist Church of Franklin Lakes.
