Murphy Jr., Joseph Stephen, 77, of Ringwood, NJ passed away at his home, Monday, March 13, 2017. Joe was born July 24, 1939, in Bronx, NY to Joseph Murphy Sr. and Muriel Wilks Murphy. The eldest of five, Joe graduated from St. Peters College in 1962 and Fordham University School of Law in 1967. He practiced law for more than forty years, beginning In Legal Services, Landlord Tenant/Poverty Law, winning two Landmark Cases in MA. In the last twenty years Joe specialized in Criminal Defense, Appellate Law and Post-Conviction Relief. Joseph is survived by his wife, Gloria Walter Murphy: their children, William Gitelman, Laurie Gitelman Emmons, Daniel Gitelman, his wife Karen Gitelman, Julie Gitelman, Caitlin Murphy Fleck, her husband Kenneth Fleck; 6 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; four siblings; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 18, 2017, from 2-4 pm at Oakland Memorial Home, 330 Ramapo Valley Road, Oakland, NJ. The family welcomes those who knew Joe to come and bid farewell. Cremation will be held privately by the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
