Obituary of Douglas Brezinski

Please share a memory of Douglas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Douglas Brezinski, of Waldwick, New Jersey died in Delray Beach, Florida on February 8, 2017. He was 67 years old. Douglas is survived by son Scott, his wife Elizabeth, grandchildren Edward and Grace of Waldwick, New Jersey; son Todd, his wife Kristin of Dallas, Texas; sister Lois of Delray Beach, Florida, and brothers Richard of Denver, Colorado, Mark of Dallas, Texas, and Phil of San Mateo, California. He is preceded in death by father Joseph Henry and mother Virginia Betty of West Milford, New Jersey. Douglas was born on February 2, 1950 in Montclair, New Jersey to Joseph and Virginia Brezinski. He was the third of five children. He grew up on Jacobus Avenue in Little Falls, New Jersey and spent many of his early teenage years on Long Beach Island. It was there that he enjoyed neighborhood whiffle ball games and made his mother happy by earning a living clamming. His parents returned to northern New Jersey in his late teens and he graduated from Kinnelon High School. Having his choice of college, Douglas decided on the architecture school at Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Oklahoma, mainly because of the “beautiful women” on campus. Later in life he admitted that it took him a few days to realize he was not attending the larger Oklahoma University. After graduating Oklahoma State as an architect, Douglas moved to Houston, Texas to start his career. It was in Houston that he met the mother of his two sons. After moving through a few towns in Texas, he returned to his roots in northern New Jersey where he raised his sons and spent most of his adult life. Douglas always put his two sons first - coaching their sports teams, supporting their academic interests, and providing them with countless opportunity. Later in life, as his health deteriorated due to Parkinson’s Disease, Douglas moved to Delray Beach, Florida. His sister Lois acted selflessly as his main caregiver while his brother Richard and other family members provided invaluable support. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Douglas’s name to Parkinson.org.
