  John L. Auffret, age 87, of West Milford, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on October 15th, surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in New York City to the late Helen and Louis Auffret, John proudly served in the United States Air Force for three years and ten months and was stationed in Germany. After returning home, John earned a degree in accounting from Pace University and began a long and successful career with MetLife Insurance Company. Once retired at the age of 56, he took the opportunity to embrace his passion for travel. John was a lifelong learner, always curious and engaged. Well into his 80s, he continued taking classes on a wide range of subjects. From world regions to computer technology he wanted to know it all, reflecting his enduring love of knowledge. He is survived by his children Michael (Debra) and Helen, and a cherished grandfather to Brittany (Daniel), Brielle, and Jordan. John will be remembered for his kindness, wisdom, and the joy he brought to those around him. His unwavering devotion to family will remain forever in our hearts. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at Oakland Memorial Home, 330 Ramapo Valley Road, Oakland, NJ, on October 20th from 5–9 PM. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help R.C. Church, 117 Franklin Avenue, on October 21st at 9:30 AM.
