Obituary of Richard Lee Eldridge, Jr.

Richard L. Eldridge Jr., 82, of Oakland, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on June 10, 2025.

Richard was born on January 12, 1943, in Suffern, NY and was raised in Waldwick, NJ until moving to Oakland in 1964 where he served as a police officer for 25 years until his retirement in 1996.

Richard enjoyed playing the saxophone, and in his younger years, found joy in riding motorcycles and hunting with his sons.

He is survived by his devoted wife Barbara of 61 years, his three sons, Richard III and his wife Cheryl, Douglas and his wife Karen and Christian and his wife Janice. He was a proud grandfather to six grandsons: Brandon and his wife Elizabeth, Shane and his wife Kate, Justin and his wife Sophia, Zachary, Kyle and Cody. He is also survived by his cherished great-granddaughter, Peyton Mae, and loving niece, Stacey.

Richard was predeceased by his father, Richard Sr., his mother, Edna, and his brothers Ronald and Jeffrey.

Richard’s life was one of service, love, and quiet devotion to family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Funeral arrangements will be private, in accordance with the family’s wishes.
