Obituary of Alan Aaron Nehama

Please share a memory of Alan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

My heart broke on 3/24/25 when my husband, my love and my best friend Alan entered into eternal rest.  Anyone who knew Alan knows he had a heart of gold, never said a bad word about anyone and gave so much of himself to help others.  A man of few words but a fantastic listener and always provided some sage advice.

Alan was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY.  Although he had his struggles in his early years he turned his life around.  Having  41 years of sobriety, he became a true inspiration to so many.

I will forever be so proud of what he accomplished. While working full time and running a pet sitting business he managed to go back to school to obtain his BS at John Jay College, continued on to get his Masters in Sociology from Yeshiva University and ultimately started a solo practice as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker through which he helped and touched so many over  the years.

In his younger years he enjoyed playing softball in town through which he met so many good friends.  He was an avid Yankees, Giants and Rangers fan since childhood. We had great memories of getting into Giants games by just slipping $20 to someone at the back gate to let us into the stadium.  He had  a short lived relationship with his Harley motorcycle.  Whenever he came back from a ride he was so at peace and seemed just a bit lighter in spirit.

I feel very fortunate that we did take some wonderful trips together while time allowed. Memories that I hold close to my heart.

Alan had a wonderful recent experience of being cast in a major motion picture and how exciting to see him on the big screen and, since extras were listed by appearance, there was my love’s name listed first Alan Nehama.

Fishing was truly one of his greatest passions, whether off a boat, surf casting on the beach in Lavallette, or just on the edge of the Ramapo River.  I am thankful for some of the great fishing experiences we shared together.

A true animal lover, our pet sitting business was a wonderful fit, which he ran with such integrity.  I know he is now  back together with our pets Brucie, Arthur, Bolt, Tuco, Madison, Stella Blue and Bernie.

Alan left a hole in the hearts of so many people but his legacy will live on in those he helped and loved. He was the best thing that ever happened in my life and I was blessed to have had 42 years with my love.  I know he is now on  the best fishing trip of his life.  I will miss him more than words can express.  He always made me a priority and was my biggest supporter.

Alan is predeceased by his father and mother Sam and Tilly Nehama, his sister Sydell, his brother Jack and sister-in-law Roz. He is survived by his loving wife Nancy, his brother Joe, his nephew Sam and wife Karen Nehama, his niece Robin and husband Bob Sobey, his cousin Sy Cassorla as well as all his great nieces, nephews and cousins.
