Obituary of Margaret M Schad

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Born on October 11, 1927 to Tobias and Margaret Cozzolino and grew up in the Riverside section of Paterson and later lived on Madison Ave.

Margaret graduated from St Joseph School of Nursing in 1950, which began her long career as an RN, working at St Joe’s, Preakness Hospital, Public Health Nurse in Paterson and ending up at Holy Name Hospital Home Care unit before retiring.

Margaret married the love of her life, Thomas A Breen in January of 1953 and they started to raise their three young children in Glen Rock, before buying their first and only home in Oakland in 1960. Unfortunately, Thomas passed away (35) postponing the move for another year or so.

Margaret remarried Frederick C Schad many years later. They enjoyed being involved in town and OLPH where Margaret sang in the choir and was very involved in all her children’s activities.

She was a member of the Oakland Seniors Club where she had many friends, played cards and shared the responsibility of being “the cake lady”.

Both Thomas A Breen (1960) and Frederick C SCHAD (2001) preceded her in death.

Surviving are her two sons, Thomas A Breen and his partner Nancy Evens of Annandale, Joseph and Kimberly Breen of Township of Washington and her daughter/Caregiver, Kathryn Anne Breen of Oakland, granddaughters Jessica and Caroline and grandson Clayton Breen Pittala and his Mother-Maria Pittala.

Margaret was a 3 time cancer survivor. To call her resilient is an understatement. Her strength, stubbornness and tenacity were unmatched.

Her home meant the world to her. She spent many years gardening on her property, loved her trips to Aruba and spending time with her grandkitties, Chuchi and Timmy, who brought her great comfort in her last months.

Margaret hated to cook but made a “mean” pot of Ragu sauce that she used to cook every Saturday, while cleaning the house.

Having experienced trade by and many hurdles in her life, her final months on earth were filled with much love and caring, something she never experienced when raised by her parents.
