i felt it was an honor to be a friend of Peter. He was friend to all and a friend of all. He was the heart and soul of the spirit of the community of Oakland. as the Supt of the Oakland Schools I frequently called upon Peter for his support, encouragement and assistance. He was always there to support the enrichment of our school activities. he had a passion for being a Game Changer. He will long be remembered for his radiant smile, ,l compassion, musical endeavors and being our protector as a policeman and then as a Detective. God Bless you Pete you will brighten Heaven.

Q: What will you never forget about Peter?
A: I will never forget playing soccer with Mike and traveling all over the state of NJ as well as other states for tournaments and always seeing his Mother and Father there at every game supporting us and rooting us on. Mr C was an amazing man and an influence on my childhood that I will always remember. Thank you Mr C for your kindness, support and dedication to your son’s sports teams and rooting on his teammate's. I will never forget you!

I was just a kid from Maryland stuck with no way home for Christmas break at Elmira College, when one of my teammates Micheal asked his parents if I could possibly spend it with them in New Jersey. His dad with out hesitation agreed and picked us both up from school. I was greeted with warmth and love from a man and family that barely knew me, but took me in like if I was one of his own. He and the family took me to Christmas eve mass and introduced me to everyone like i was one of his boys. Mr. Catenacci allowed a complete stranger to be welcomed into his home and made to feel comfortable from the moment I met him. I will always remember his kind heart and warm spirit from that interaction. If I never said then, I'm saying it now "thank you all from letting a young man spend Christmas with the Catenacci's"

My cousin Pete was a terrific role model for me as a teenager. I was interested in police work and he gave me his complete set of law enforcement notebooks from the police academy. I read and studied each one. Ultimately I made the Army a career and was further guided by Pete's honorable service to our Nation. Important to mention his great love and respect for his Mother. His caring and sincere attitude to everyone he met was always an inspiration and example to follow. He brought light, hope, and goodness to life. Pete Gitto

I met Pete when I started working at OPD. He worked with me in the Records Bureau. To this day, I believe Pete to have always been such a kind and honorable man, an exceptional friend and coworker. I enjoyed all that time we spent with each other, and getting to know his family. Feeling like a part of that family that he so loved. Running into him at a store, or the laundromat and enjoying any time that was spent in his company. My family will truly miss him. This loss is significant to so many, who knew him and loved him. To the family my sincerest condolences and prayers are with you. I love you all and will always be here for you.

Pete was one of the best—a fine man and a fine cop! I remember being at the dinner table at the Cunningham’s when I first heard the story of how Pete met Sandy….it brought a smile to my face through this very sad time. Humble that he was, I was unaware of ALL that Pete did!!!
I am brokenhearted for Sandy and the family. Though I now live far away, I have always felt a part of the family through my communications with Sandy. May God bless them and give them peace and encouragement as they deal with this loss. My deepest sympathy. All my love, Marlene
