Obituary of Lorraine Ann Schmitt
Please share a memory of Lorraine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Lorraine Ann Schmitt from Oakland, NJ. Lorraine was born in 1938 in Brooklyn, NY. Lori was married for close to 50 years to her high school sweetheart Kenny who passed in 2007.
Lori is survived by her son Greg, his wife Susana and their twin daughters Alexandra and Angelina. Also, her daughter Nancy her husband Ralph Costa and their children Emily and Andrew, his wife Kelsey and their boys Carson and Cameron. Lori grew up in Richmond Hills, Queens and was the daughter of Fred & Ruth Steininger and her late brother Fred. Lori always had a zest for life and especially her family.
She was especially involved in the town of Oakland where she served on many town committees including The Friends of the Library, helping the less fortunate, Woman’s Club, School PTA’s and was also member at Messiah Lutheran Church where she enjoyed her fellowship. She was named Woman of the Year in 1984 for her contributions to the town of Oakland.
Grammy as she was called loved her 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren so much and was known to spoil them with a trip to perhaps Dairy Queen or her favorite store in Marshalls. She loved going to their baseball games, cheerleading, singing showsand plays. She made a tremendous impact on all their lives that will live on forever and will never be forgotten.
Lori loved “antiquing” and going to garage sales looking for the next antique road show treasure. She was also an avid arts and crafts lover and loved her second life of golfing, playing cards and having lunch with her friends at North Jersey Country Club where she was a member for over 30 years.
Lori’s friendships encompassed all aspects of life, and each was special to her. From phone call chats to joint family outings, to sharing informal and formal meals and entertaining, to class reunions, to adventures near and far, to helping in times of sadness and difficulty, Lori was always up for it all. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her the most, offering support, wisdom, and love in abundance. A friend to many, she was a cherished member of the community she so loved. She was a New Yorker by birth who quickly embraced New Jersey became a “Jersey Girl”.
