Obituary of Regina Schaefer

Please share a memory of Regina to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Regina Rose (Scully) Schaefer, known to most as Jeanne, passed away on July 3, 2024 in her Oakland home. Jeanne was born in Englewood, New Jersey to Anna Elizabeth (Wetzel) and William Vincent Scully on February 14, 1932.

Jeanne graduated from St. Cecelia’s High School in Englewood, New Jersey. She worked in Real Estate for many years while enjoying her travels.  Jeanne was devoted to her nieces and nephews and spent countless hours with them.  They, in turn, remained devoted in caring for their aunt to the end.  She had a great group of high school friends and they remained  friends for the rest of their lives.  She was predeceased by all of them.

She reunited with her high school beau after twenty years and married the love of her life, George, in 1974. They moved to Oakland and remained in the same house until their passings.  Marrying George meant becoming a step-mother to four boys for 50 years. She was a wonderful step-mother, mother-in-law, aunt, great-aunt, grandmother, and great grandmother.  By far, her starring role was as a grandma. Jeanne lost her life partner, George, in 2010 and she mourned him for 14 years. Jeanne was lucky to have wonderful neighbors who checked in on her constantly and supported her over the years.

Jeanne is survived by her step-sons George Schaefer and wife Pam (McEwan) of Kinnelon, NJ,  Peter Schaefer of Cartersville, GA, William Schaefer of Eastport ME, and Timothy Schaefer of Lee, MA. She is also survived by her grandchildren Kristen (Schaefer) Fazio and her husband Peter Trabilsy, Eric Schaefer, Kate (Schaefer) Callahan and her husband Patrick, Sam Schaefer, and Molly Schaefer and her great-grandchildren Benjamin Fazio, Emerson Fazio, and Quinn Callahan.

Jeanne is also survived by her nieces Carol Scully Boutillier and husband Thomas,  Susan Kiely, and Lisa R. Scully; her nephews John J. Scully Jr., Robert A. Scully and wife Sasha, Mark W. Scully and wife Debbie.

Jeanne was predeceased by her husband George (2010), her mother Anna Scully (1988), her father William Scully (1969), and her brother John J. Scully Sr. (1987).

In lieu of flowers, donations to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Regina Schaefer would be greatly appreciated.
