When I think of John, I remember all our great movie "reviews" at the Oakland Library and the books we shared. He was not only great to talk to, but special man to know and remember. Marilyn Cioffi

My family and I have been absolutely blessed to have had John living across the street from us for the past 23 years. He watched how our family grew and, as a result, he has been a part of our daughters’ entire lives, from birth to now at the ages of 19 and 21. Our girls do not know life without John across the street and I am so saddened that we have to adjust to this new reality. John was like no other. Not only would he chat with us whenever he saw us and always ask about what was going on in our lives at the time, he was also a huge presence in our girls’ lives, taking our younger daughter fishing for the first time, clipping out newspaper articles that mentioned them and their tennis teams when they were playing high school tennis, and coming to their tennis matches and cheering them on. He would often get to the matches before me, and I would love to watch how he would applaud every time my daughters made a great shot. That is a memory I will forever cherish. There are not many people like this in the world and I feel God blessed us for putting us in John's path. He has taught us that, however few there are, there are some really special and good people in this world. John was certainly one of them and he will be forever missed by us all.

Coach Nick was the most amazing coach I’ve ever had. He coached me for 4 years BHS Varsity girls soccer and boy, we were terrible! But Coach NEVER gave up on us!!! He was so supportive and every game we would lose (by a lot)!!!! He also made us feel so good about ourselves and we just had fun! May his memory be a blessing.

John married my sister when I was a small child and I remember him like he was an uncle because of it. When I got older, I realized that he was my brother-in-law and I was shocked! He was always kind to me and he and Lucy would take me places and baby sit me and it was always a fun time. He was always kind and had a huge sense of humor. I remember he loved children and babies and would sit on the floor and play with them and laugh and laugh at them. I will remember his smile and his heart always. RIP John you will be missed.

John was the true definition of a gentleman. He was humble, kind, loving, and most importantly supportive of all his friends and family. When he would come to my tennis matches, I would feel so much joy and gratitude when seeing him cheer me on in the crowd! He was a true neighbor to all of us. We love you John!

John was truly one of the most generous people I have ever met and I am blessed to have grown up with him just across the street. He often came to my high school tennis matches and I can confidently say he was my biggest fan. He showed so much love and support for me and my family and his kindness and jokes were unlike no other. I’ll cherish these memories I have of him for the rest of my life.

It was a privileged to know and work with coach "NIC" for many years on the field of play, the classroom and I admire his interest in the development of his students. He was very well respected as a teacher and coach.
He covered his sport assignments by being prepared and put a great deal of effort while coaching or officiating.
I will miss our conversations about the classroom and the many sports he coached.
May he rest in peace,
Joe & Regina Suarez
