I just now found out about Mr. Piercy, or "Pierce" as some of us students affectionately called him. I Had Pierce for one year of math at Indian Hills, back in the 1977-1978 school year. I really struggled with math, but Mr Piercy made it easy to understand and had the patience of a saint. It gave me joy to read that he continued coaching and teaching for so long, even after he was "retired". That said, it also saddens me that he is gone, and even at 80 years old, it indeed was way too soon. I'm sure he's teaching somebody something in the great beyond. I'm sending heartfelt condolences to the family and this special message to a great educator. Here's to you Pierce. Thank you for making this mathematical lost boy, understand more in a year with you, than many years with other teachers. Peace...
