Robert J. Schneider

Robert Joseph Schneider of Oakland, NJ passed away on May 16, 2023 at 81 years old.  Bob was born on April 30, 1942 to Warren and Louise Schneider in East Paterson, NJ and grew up in Great Notch and Pompton Lakes, NJ with his brothers Warren and Tom.  He graduated in 1961 from Pompton Lakes High School.  Although always humble, he excelled in high school football as an All-State running back and was Captain of the team in 1960 when Pompton Lakes won the State Championship.  He went on to serve in the United States Air Force for four years spending most of his time while serving in Japan and the Philippines.  He was always proud that while serving in Japan he climbed Mount Fuji.  He worked for New Jersey Bell and AT&T for 32 years in various roles and locations in Northern NJ.  After retiring he worked part time at Ponds Church Cemetery and Darlington Golf Course.

In 1961 while at The Old Barn Milk Bar he met Marjorie Beck, and they later married on September 23, 1967.  They moved to Oakland, NJ in 1969 to raise their sons Chris and Craig.  Bob and Marjorie celebrated their 55th Wedding Anniversary in 2022 and still live in Oakland.  Bob and Marge worked very hard to provide a warm and loving home for their family and we all have many great memories of holidays, family parties, and family vacations.

Bob loved his family, his friends, his Brittany Spaniels, the outdoors, and sports.  He spent many days fishing, hunting, hiking, and working in his yard.  He was a great husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, and always put his family first.  He always made time for camping, fishing, and hunting trips with his friends, brothers, sons, and nephews.  His favorite trips included pheasant hunting at Flatbrook, deer hunting on the Kittatinny Mountain, trout fishing at Limecrest, and camping and fishing in the Catskills.  He attended countless recreation and high school games for his sons and grandchildren.  He actively participated in all family parties and holidays and made them fun, and was always part of the clean-up and dishwashing team.  He was always willing to lend a hand and helped on several home moves, home improvement projects, yard work, cutting down trees, and was willing to help on any project.  People were always impressed with how hard he worked, how strong he was, and that he would never accept anything in return for his help.  He was a member of Ponds Church and volunteered for the Meals on Wheels program, often provided rides for people to get to the Doctor, hosting Coffee Hour, and anything else that needed to get done.

He is survived by his wife Marjorie, son Chris and wife Lauana, son Craig and wife Samantha, and his loving grandchildren Megan, Kevin, Jack, and Luke, and Maggie his Brittany Spaniel.  He is also survived by Sister-in-law Julia Schneider, Sister-in-law Anne Korlishin and her husband Robert, several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.  He was loved and will be dearly missed.
