Obituary of Elaine Clements Fuchs
Please share a memory of Elaine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Elaine Fuchs, beloved mother of Richard Fuchs, Thomas Fuchs and Elisa Pergolizzi; grandmother of Richard, Michael, Katherine, Jake, Jamie, Nicholas and Kyle, passed into eternal rest on December 9, 2022. She grew up in Brooklyn, New York, attending Bay Ridge High School and then on to Long Island College Hospital to study Nursing. She worked as a public health nurse in New York City, with colorful stories of her time touring the Lower East Side, caring for the neighborhood’s families and children. Elaine worked faithfully as a nurse, up to the time she met her husband Richard E Fuchs. They met through a mutual friend at a bowling alley. After a short courtship, they were married October 7, 1961, at Saint Athanasius Church in Brooklyn. They then moved to the Washington D.C area where they settled in Silver Springs, Maryland. Between raising the three children and being a devoted wife, she was very involved in her parish, Saint Andrews. Eventually the family moved to New Jersey and settled in Oakland. Here she shared her life with friends and family, as her children grew up, went to college, married, and had children. She loved her grandchildren very much and enjoyed spending time with them, whether during holiday parties or at “Camp Grandma.” Elaine loved to travel, including her trips to Europe as a young woman, and cruises to Bermuda and Alaska. She was an eager participant in community theater productions and a busy volunteer in her parish, Our Lady of Perpetual Help. She was very generous with her time and gifts, wanting to share them with everyone. Even in her later years as she had to slow down physically, she was sharp as ever, enjoying time with her family and friends, and staying competitive with card games and crossword puzzles. She will be deeply missed, but we are comforted that Heaven has a new angel.
