Bagge, Velma Marie (nee Wood) passed into the arms of her Savior on August 30, 2016, after a brief illness. She is survived by a loving family, including 4 children; Elaine and husband Paul Wright, Douglas Bagge, Carol and husband Brad Conger, and Andrew Bagge and partner Jerry Szubin, 3 adoring grandchildren; Michael and wife Rachel Bagge, Laura Bagge and Stephen Bagge, and 1 great-grandchild; Alex Bagge and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, John, her parents, Nelson and Henrietta Wood, her brother Malcolm, and sister Irma. We will all miss her dearly. Velma lived in Oakland, NJ from 1957 to 2010, where together with her loving husband John L. Bagge she raised her 4 children. Velma was predeceased in 2011 by John. Throughout this time she was an active and passionate member of the Wyckoff Reformed Church, where she served as deacon, elder and Sunday School teacher and had many friends. She leaves a legacy of love for all who had the pleasure of knowing her, especially the continuing love of her children for each other, the legacy closest to her heart. Born in Brooklyn, New York on September 16, 1924, Velma grew up in Glen Rock, NJ, attended Ridgewood HS and graduated from Hawthorne HS. She especially enjoyed gardening, opera performances, and visiting close friends and relatives. Prior to her marriage to John in 1950, she was employed in the accounting department of a local railway company. Velma's family gratefully acknowledge the love and attention she received by the staff of the VanDyk Park Place assisted living center. A celebration of Velma's life will be held FRIDAY, September 23, 10 AM at the Wyckoff Reformed Church, Wyckoff, New Jersey. Interment will be private.
Velma's family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Eastern Christian Children's Retreat. Arrangements by the Oakland Memorial Home.
