O'Brien, William Joseph Jr. (Bill) Of Oakland NJ, 89, passed away on August 18th. He was a resident of Oakland since 1954. Bill was a World War II Army Veteran where he served as a psychiatric medic. He was a long time member of the American Legion Post 369 where served as post commander in 2003. Bill helped to build the current American Legion Hall in Oakland. Under the sponsorship of the American Legion, Bill was the co-founder of the Oakland Rangers and the Mavericks Drum and Bugle Corps. Bill born in Hackensack NJ and raised in the Bronx NY. Prior to his retirement he was the president of Dynastat Inc. Bill is survived by his wife of 64 years Mildred (Mickey), His seven children Joann Bowell and husband Robert, Trudylynne O'Brien, Henry (Hank) O'Brien and wife Sheryl, John O'Brien and wife Julie, Edward O'Brien, Matthew O'Brien and Patricia Reed and husband Kurt, thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2PM -4PM on Sunday, August 21st at the Oakland Memorial Home 330 Ramapo Valley Road, Oakland NJ. A funeral Mass will take place at 9:30 AM on Monday, August 22nd at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church on Franklin Avenue, Oakland NJ.
