Gus was the sweetest of the sweetest sweets!!! He exuded God’s light, love and kindness in such a special way. He always made my day when I saw him in Stop & Shop where I met him. I always told him how good it was to see him when I did, and I truly meant it, as he brimmed with welcoming warm friendliness. He always brought a smile to my face, as his beautiful demeanor, presence, and softness brought me so much joy. An enormous gentleman with such a BIG heart so FULL of LOVE. He was so PRECIOUS to me. (And realize now, how precious he was to so many others, of course, naturally)! I will miss Gus dearly, yet so happy for those beautiful moments and memories in time that God brought us together to share love! An angel a beautiful person.
My sincere condolences to the whole family, especially to his two nephews. As I am sure that has to be most difficult for them. I am just thinking though, how truly blessed you all were to have him in your lives. :-D
Fondly,
Lynn Hudzina (Franklin Lakes and Oakland resident)

My daughter Kelda went to school with Gus and my husband and I knew Gus from shopping in Stop and Shop. He always asked about Kelda and always told us about his family with much affection. He was especially happy to share stories about his nephews. He was so proud of them!
When my husband passed away 4 years ago, Gus came to the wake. I will always remember Gus for his special kindness. He was a true gentleman. Deborah Vreeland

It was always so great to talk to Gus while I was shopping or serve him and his family while I was waitressing at Lenape. We always bantered about our EMS calls when I would see him. I’m going to miss him greatly. Thank you for all you did Gus!

Remembering the days during wrestling, Gus made himself available to help us out with whatever we needed help with. He enjoyed the art of giving, and always helped with a smile, as if we were doing Him a favor! I could say every adjective under the sun to express what a kind soul he was and that wouldn’t be enough. We are very shocked and saddened to hear this news and we are praying for Gus’ family in the hard days ahead. RIP Gus

What a wonderful, caring, joyful, sweet, kind boy when I taught him in Oakland and man when he worked in Franklin Lakes. God gave him a special personality and heart for loving others. Something he innately had. He will be missed. His parents guided and directed him to live a full life. We can only aspire to be as he was, loving & respectful to all. Our love and sympathy. How he loved his family. A shining light to all.

Gus was our favorite cashier at Stop and Shop, I first met him when I was pregnant with my second, child, he would always ask, " how is the baby?" She is now 24..over the years Gus shared stories with me and always showed photos of his nephews to me and told me about them. He shared with me about his being ill.and I always told him he was a hard worker!
I last saw him at work and waved and he said hi, I'm sad to say on that day, I wasn't on his checkout line. It was on my weekly shopping day that another employee told me of his passing.
At hearing the news I felt his presence as if he was saying I'll be OK. He will be so missed and my entire family knew him for so many years, he was an important part of food shopping.
He was indeed a kind soul, who was so sweet to all..Wishing his family strength at this very sad time and may his memory forever be a blessing to all who knew and loved him..I will really miss him!
