Obituary of Peter L. DeStefano

Peter DeStefano was a beloved husband, father and grandfather during his incredible 87 years of life. He passed away peacefully after a brief illness in the early morning hours of Wednesday, December 22nd. Peter was born on July 4th, 1934 to Angela and Vincent DeStefano in Scranton, Pennsylvania where he spent the first ten years of his life. He and his family then moved to Jersey City, New Jersey. After graduating high school, Pete served honorably in the United States Army for four years. After returning home to Jersey City, he met the love of his life Rose Birnie. The two married on November 11th, 1961 and soon after welcomed their two daughters, Anne and Jean. Peter graduated from Rutgers University in 1965 with a degree in business management. He enjoyed a successful business career, eventually starting his own company, Venture Fleet Sales where he served as acting president until retiring in 2008. In his retirement, Peter enjoyed taking trips to the beach, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, and spending time with his family. Peter is survived by his two daughters, Anne and her husband John as well as Jean and her husband Robert. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Thomas, Jennifer, Damian, Robert, and Christian. He was predeceased by his wife, Rose (03/02/2018). Viewing will take place at Oakland Memorial Home in Oakland, New Jersey on Tuesday December 28th from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. The funeral mass will take place on Wednesday December 29th at 9:30am at St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, 868 Ringwood Avenue, in Haskell, New Jersey.
