Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with profound sadness and deep sorrow that we mourn the passing of Michael Robert Kummerfeldt, 65, of Pompton Lakes, NJ, on Sunday November 21st, 2021, after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Michael was born to parents, Frederick and Lillian Kummerfeldt, on June 29, 1956 in Pompton Plains, NJ. He graduated from Indian Hills High School in 1974 and went on to receive his technical degree in auto mechanics from Lincoln Technical Institute. Michael was employed by Jeff’s Mobil in Oakland, NJ as an auto-mechanic for nearly 38 years.
Michael is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Frances (Petermann) Kummerfeldt; his daughters Megan Faro, and her husband Michael, and Erin Kummerfeldt; his son Peter Kummerfeldt, and his wife Jessica. Michael was also a beloved “Poppy” to his three grandsons, Jason, Josias, and Jonah Carbon. Michael is also survived by his mother, Lillian (Stickles) Kummerfeldt, and brother Steven Kummerfeldt. Most recently, Michael enjoyed frequent visits from his three grand-dogs, Honey, Tito, and Sadie — who will all miss being spoiled by their beloved “Pop.”
Michael is predeceased by his father Frederick Kummerfeldt.
Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Michael managed the last several months of his illness with strength and grace, and chose to spend his remaining time with his loved ones by his side. Michael was a devoted husband, who worked tirelessly to provide for his family. He was a supportive father with a loving and steady presence, who was eternally proud of his children’s successes. Michael epitomized what it meant to be a loyal friend, and a dedicated coworker. He was an honest and humble man that was beloved by all that knew him.
An avid outdoorsman, Michael spent most of his free time with friends of his hunting club at the Stonebridge Farm in Stillwater, NJ. He was also a member of the pit crew of the Kummerfeldt-Memmelaar #45 stock car at Orange County Fair Speedway in the 1970’s and enjoyed watching NASCAR. He enjoyed watching various sports and had coached his daughters softball teams for many years.
Michael’s family invites loved ones and friends to a viewing to be held on Sunday November 28, 2021 from 2:00-6:00 P.M. at the Oakland Memorial Home at 330 Ramapo Valley Road, Oakland, NJ.
Funeral services will be held on Monday November 29, 2021 at 10:00 A.M., at the Oakland Memorial Home, followed by the interment at George Washington Memorial Park, at 234 Paramus Road, Paramus, NJ.
