Stanka Skalko age 86 a long-time resident of Bergenfield died on June 27th. She was born in Montenegro in the former Yugoslavia and through the help of sponsors immigrated to America to build a better life for her family. She worked for many years as a seamstress and later reinvented herself and became a first-class Nurse's Aide at Woodcrest Center in New Milford. She was a loving a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. Many remember her generosity, thoughtfulness, as well as her great laugh and keen sense of humor. She adored her family and loved having everyone at her home. That’s when we came to expect her favorite signature dishes, including palacinke, frite and Jell-O Salad. Our favorite family memories were when we went Apple Picking in Warwick. Our mom always kept busy, her favorite hobbies were sewing and reading. She also had a green thumb and spent much time tending her flowers and growing vegetables. Throughout her life, our mom endured many challenges and health setbacks but always fought hard to stay a lady of grace and strength. Our family and friends will always remember you and keep your memory near and dear to our hearts. Visiting Tuesday 5-9 PM at Oakland Memorial Home, 330 Ramapo Valley Road, Oakland, NJ. Funeral service at 8PM. Cremation will be private.
