Lois Ann Smid, 86 of Oakland, NJ peacefully passed away on December 6, 2020. Lois was born at her home in Prospect Park, NJ, to Leonard and Lena Garbaccio. She graduated from Hawthorne high school and took courses on medical terminology which helped her during her lifelong career of medical office management. She married Anthony Smid in December of 1959 and they had a daughter Leslie. Lois and Tony moved from Prospect Park in 1964 to make Oakland their home. Lois loved to cook, sew, knit and travel. Lois was a wonderful listener, gave caring advice as well as stern warnings when you were headed down the wrong path. She cherished time with friends and family A recent family trip to Italy was one of her fondest memories even when she was hot while walking the ruins of Pompeii or weeping at the Pieta in St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican City
Lois and Tony shared a love of dog breeding and dog shows. They belonged to various kennel clubs and spent many hours driving the country to show their beloved vizslas. Lois was a retired member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Oakland Volunteer Fire department and she was the treasury of the Oakland branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary up until her passing. As a volunteer she worked at Kurth Cottage at the Valley Hospital and delivered Meals on Wheels with her husband to support her community.
She was predeceased by her parents, siblings Len Garth and Donald Garbaccio. Lois is survived by her loving husband Tony, her daughter Leslie and son-in law Anthony Catanese. Lois will be missed by her nieces, nephews and dear friends. There will be a memorial service at a later date.
