Obituary of Louise P. Gilliard

Please share a memory of Louise to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Louise Pittenger Gilliard passed into the Great Unknown on Thursday May 21. She was 84 years old. She is survived by her husband, G. Bruce Gilliard, son, Bruce Gilliard, daughter in law Susan Gilliard, daughter, Josephine Schiff, and grandson, Nicholas Schiff. She was predeceased by her mother, Josephine Pittenger, father, Dudley Pittenger, and sister, Gloria Pritchard. She was also treasured by her four nieces, and many great nieces and nephews. Louise was born in Teaneck, NJ, and was raised by her grandmother, Grace Prandoni. She graduated from Teaneck HS, and spent many years working at the Teaneck and Paramus Public Libraries. After marrying Bruce Gilliard, they settled in Oakland NJ, where they would live for 50 years, before moving to Cedar Crest in Pompton Plains. Almost immediately after moving to Oakland, she began to attend St. Albans Episcopal Church, which became her ‘home away from home’ for decades. An avid quilter and baker, she was constantly creating, whether it was a quilt, or a cookie! She treasured her summer vacations on Cape Cod and visiting her sister in Las Vegas. She remained devoted to our father, and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in February. The family would like to thank the home health aides and staff of the Caring People agency, and Compassionate Care Hospice, who took amazing care of her in her final months and weeks. Burial will be private, due to current Covid 19 directives. Donations in Louise’s name to St.Albans Church (outreach or Altar Guild), 1 Church Lane, Oakland, NJ 07436
