Karl F. Steude passed away peacefully on June 4, 2016. He was 88 years old. He and his wife, Dorothy, were residents of Oakland since 1952. Karl was born June 9, 1927, in Garfield, NJ. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy (nee Tronci), devoted father of Diane Wood and Linda Remmert, friend and Father-in-Law to their husbands, Richard and Dennis, respectively. He also leaves behind his cherished granddaughter, Christine Remmert. He was predeceased by his parents, Karl H. Steude and Margarete (nee Honomichl) Steude, of Elmwood Park, NJ. Karl graduated from Garfield High School, then joined the U.S. Marines. After honorable discharge, he worked at the Okonite Cable Company in Paterson for four decades. Karl dedicated his life to his family and to community service. He was a member of F&AM Masonic Lessing Passaic Lodge # 67 for over 50 years. He and Dorothy both served as active members of the Oakland First Aid Squad for 10 years during the 1950's and 60's. In his leisure time, Karl was a talented photographer and woodworker, spending many enjoyable hours creating beautiful marquetry pictures in his workshop. He gave them as gifts to family and friends, saying, "The fun was in making it." He also enjoyed fishing, camping, summer concerts in the park, and woodcarving. Most of all, he loved being with his family. We will miss and keep him in our hearts, remembering his kindness, good nature, and unique brand of humor. Services will be held at Oakland Memorial Home 330 Ramapo Valley Road Oakland, NJ. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-8 PM, funeral service on Friday 10 AM followed by a burial at Ponds Reformed Church Cemetery Oakland, NJ.
