Since Jen she attended St. Bernards and I attended the public school, our paths did not cross until our freshman year at Buckeye Central High School. My first memory of her is that bright smile that she seemed to carry with her every day. We were in some of the same math and science classes and I remember Jen doubling up with some of her math/science to catch the rest of us on the advanced track (as we started ours in the 8th grade). Anyhow, it was readily apparent that she was one very kind and very smart young lady.
Since we both had parents working at the Timken company, we were both eligible to apply for the Timken scholarship. I can't remember if only one was issued per plant, or one for male and one for female. Anyhow, I really saw no point in applying as I would have to compete with Jen (our valedictorian) and Tom Tobin (our salutatorian). I was a solid, if underachieving student. There was NO WAY that I would be able to match up against these two. If memory serves me correctly, Jen did win the scholarship and I was very happy for her.
My lasting memories of Jen are that warm smile. I'm so glad she was able to make it home for our 35th reunion. She will be missed by her classmates.
May God comfort you in your journey forward. We can take solace in knowing Jen is resting peacefully in our loving Lord's arms. I will be keeping you in prayer.
