Obituary of Jennie Podurgiel

Podurgiel, Jennie, 96, (nee Giovanna Ternavasio) of Oakland, NJ passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 11,2012 at Valley Hospital, Ridgewood, NJ. Born in Windsor Locks, CT she was the daughter of Sebastian and Caterina (Canavero) Ternavasio. Beloved wife of the late Anthony (1987) and loving mother of Diane Sammarco and her husband Martin "Sam" of Oakland. Cherished granny of Danielle Sammarco-Bortz and her husband Bill, Nicole Nittoli and her husband AI, and Jason Sammarco and his wife Tracy. Devoted great-granny of Sebastian, Alfred, Meredith, Justin, Anthony, and Matthew. Sister of the late Phyllis Simone of CA and Mary Elizabeth DeCarli of Clifton, NJ. She is also survived by her nieces Lee Ganteaume, Patricia Reagan, and Beverly Meyers and her great nieces Joann Ganteaume, Amy Mullen, and Lauren Stawartz. Jennie worked in the textile industry in the city of Paterson for many years. After retirement she remained active by volunteering at the Oakland Public Library and the Oakland Care Center. She was also a member of the Oakland Senior Citizens, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Rosary Society, Knights of Columbus Women's Auxiliary, and the Red Hat Society. Jennie will always be remembered for her love of family and being a devoted friend. She will also be remembered for her sense of humor, interesting stories, her love of cooking and baking which she enjoyed sharing, and her beautiful crocheted blankets which she enjoyed making for newborns and donating to people in need. Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at the Oakland Memorial Home, Ramapo Valley Road, Oakland, NJ on Wednesday, August 15th• A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 17th, at 9:30 am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help R.C. Church, Franklin Avenue, Oakland. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the Family Reach Foundation P.O. Box 2001, Parsippany, NJ 07054 or the Oakland First Aid Squad, Ramapo Valley Road, Oakland, NJ 07436 would be greatly appreciated
