Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Hare, Robert A. 90, a resident of Oakland NJ for 57 years, passed away on April 1st, 2015. Mr. Hare was the beloved husband for 64 years to his wife Mary, loving father of Maureen, Peter and James and his wife, Cathleen. Cherished grandfather (pop pop Bunny) of Rachel, Caitlin and Megan, dear brother of Marie Yelavich and proud uncle of many nieces and nephews. A veteran who served in the United States Navy during World War II, Bob spent the majority of his life as a salesman, selling heavy construction equipment, electric heat and many other goods and services. An entrepreneur at heart, he owned several business, including a Dairy Queen and a gas station in Rochelle Park. He fulfilled a long time dream by buying Valley Bowling lanes in 1975, selling it in 1988. He spent his time playing golf, never losing in Gin and playing with his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his never fading smile, always the first to reach into his pocket for anyone, encouraging the grandkids to have ice cream for breakfast, muddled up Rye old fashions, his great sense of humor, lack of fashion sense, setting fire to things & following fire engines no matter where we were going, burnt toast and his overall kindness to everyone. We could say a lot more but he would hate the fact that we have to pay per word in the newspaper! He will be profoundly missed. Funeral Services are planned for Saturday, April 4th from 1PM to 5PM @ the Oakland Memorial Home 330 Ramapo Valley Road Oakland, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Valley Hospice, 15 Essex Rd, Paramus NJ 07652. 201-291-6000. https://www.valleyhospitalfoundation.org
