William Alan Monroe, born July 26, 1943 in Jersey City NJ, passed away surrounded by family at his home in Wayne, NJ on December 9th, 2013 after a 25-year battle with Parkinson’s disease. Known as Gus/Alan to family and Bill to colleagues, he is survived by wife Joyce; son Marc; daughter Melinda and brothers Peter and David. Alan was a Chemistry teacher at New Milford High School for 37 years. He retired in 2001 due to his illness. Alan was a passionate teacher who strived to make a difference in the life of every student. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved boating, skiing, fishing, hiking and biking. Strong, confident and patient, his beautiful smile, kind eyes and great sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him. In-lieu of flowers, donations to the Parkinson's foundation in Alan’s name would be appreciated. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 14th from 10-12:30 at Oakland Memorial Home.
