Oakland – William J. “Bill” Malloy of Oakland NJ, passed away Wednesday July 6, 2022, peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He was 93 years old. He started out his life in Long Island City, NY before moving to Northern, New Jersey. Bill enlisted in the Marines serving 2 years in active duty during the Korean War and another 7 years in the reserves. He was a proud Marine and member/commander of the VFW. He would visit schools in Oakland to promote a poem about the American Flag. Bill was a volunteer firefighter in Oakland for many years and an active member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help where he regularly served as Usher. Bill worked for the phone company for 30 years while also becoming an electrician. Bill’s motto was “if you rest, you rust” so he was always on the move. He was the epitome of a saint – always, always doing for others - the kindest man. Bill loved spending time with family and friends, enjoying a glass of red wine and telling some great stories from his past.
Bill is lovingly survived by his Wife of 69 Years, Irene Grabowski Malloy, his daughter Karen Malloy of Oakland, son William Malloy (Diane) of Ho-Ho-Kus, and daughter Mary Patasnik (Dan) of Glen Rock. Admired and respected grandfather of Tyler Patasnik (Julia), Lauren Patasnik and Sara and Brooke Malloy.
Please join us as we celebrate his incredible life on Tuesday July 12 from 9-10:30AM at the Oakland Memorial Home at 330 Ramapo Valley Road, Oakland, NJ. This will be followed by a Mass at 11:00AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 25 Perdue Avenue, Oakland. A Funeral Service with Military Honors, will be held at 1:00PM at Maryrest Cemetery at 770 Darlington Ave, Mahwah. A repass lunch will be held at The Mason Jar, Mahwah.
