Obituary of Irving B Guller

Dr. Irving Guller, 85 of Vero Beach, Florida formerly from Oakland, NJ passed away suddenly on November 23rd. He was fortunate to spend his last Thanksgiving with family and friends. He was a kind, generous and brilliant man and a wonderful loving husband, father, companion and friend to many. He loved travelling, visited dozens of countries and never gave up his thirst for learning and discovering new things. Irving was born in New York City on July 27th, 1932, where he attended the Bronx High school of science and City University of New York. He later received his PHD in Psychology from NYU. He was an Army psychologist serving during the Korean War. During his career he served as a professor of psychology at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and was awarded Professor Emeritus later in his career. He was considered one of the top police psychologists in the country and was one of the earliest to become board certified in the field. He worked on a variety of high profile forensic cases including the case of the murder at the Met and made several television appearances. He also published a book entitled Stop Panic, which helps people deal with panic attacks. Dr. Guller maintained a private psychological practice and founded the Institute for Forensic Psychology, which consults with hundreds of law enforcement agencies worldwide. Irving is predeceased by his wife Adele and survived by his partner Lois Lefkowitz, his sons Dr. Robert Guller, his wife Elena and granddaughter Arianna as well as Dr. Matthew Guller, his wife Selena and grandchildren Shelby, Aidan, Rowan and Dashel, his bother Alfred and his niece Dr. Deborah Gilboa. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, November 26 from 3:30 to 5:30pm, with a Funeral service at 5:00 PM at The Oakland Memorial Home, 330 Ramapo Valley Road, Oakland, NJ.
