Obituary of Robert C. Shutte

Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Shutte, Robert "Bob", age 94, of Oakland, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of family. Born in Haskell NJ, the youngest of six children, he graduated from Butler HS ( where he excelled in all sports, especially baseball) He married his beloved Mary and for nearly 70 years they called Oakland their home. Bob proudly served in the Navy and defended his country in WWII (He fought in the battle of Normandy) and was discharged from the Navy as Chief Boatswain Mate. Bob worked hard to provide for his family. He rose from a salesman at Four Roses to President of Fleischmann Distilling Company. Bob Shutte was an active participant in his community. He worked tirelessly to develop and expand the Oakland Recreation program. He served as their commissioner and was inducted into their Hall of Fame. Sundays at 8 am would find him as an usher for OLPH church where he and his wife belonged since its inception. After retiring you could find Bob playing golf at the Hackensack Country Club where he was a long time member. If not playing golf, he could be seen around town or at an Indian Hills game. He enjoyed following Coach Leicht, his son in law and Stacey and Amy his granddaughters who attended Indian Hills. In Bob's eyes, his greatest accomplishment and his greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his children Robert Shutte, Jr and his wife Cathy of Allentown, Mary Anne Stratter and her husband Joseph of Mt Laurel, Susan Leicht and her husband Joe of Oakland and Peter Shutte and his wife Mary Jane of San Francisco. He was the beloved grandfather to 12 grandchildren and was blessed to have 15 great grandchildren.
